Felted Woolen Fleece for LOBSTER
The LOBSTER bench was designed by Antwerp-based architect Caroline Voet. Crafted from powder-coated steel, the bench plays with form and function, combining creative playfulness, sustainable materials, and local craftsmanship. To soften the contrast with the steel, Lamatelier added two seating elements made from locally sourced wool.
These felted seating elements are made from the fleeces of dark Drentse Heideschapen (Drenthe Heath sheep). Unlike traditional sheepskins – which are often made using the animal’s skin and raise concerns about the animal welfare – these fleeces are created in an entirely animal-friendly and natural way. They feature wool on both sides, with loose wool hand-felted onto the back of the fleece using only water and biodegradable soap. This process binds the fibers together into a dense and firm structure. The result is a soft, durable, and unique felted fleece that maintains its natural look and feel.
