Lamatelier attaches great importance to the evolution of a raw material into a final product. Each design is created from the From Farm to Fabric philosophy – a transparent, sustainable and artisanal way of making meaningful textiles, always in harmony with nature and humanity. Every step in the process is done by hand in Lamatelier’s studio, where the work happens to the rhythm of the nature and its seasons.

Collecting the wool

Wool is a natural, biodegradable, and renewable fiber. It is harvested annually after shearing season in spring. During this time, Lamatelier collects the raw wool from local sheep farmers around Lier.

In nature nothing is lost, everything is transformable

Sorting and washing

Once the wool is collected, the process of sorting, cleaning, and washing begins. Lamatelier ensures that every category of wool quality is put to good use, making sure that nothing goes to waste.

Washing is done in small batches by hand. A labor-intensive but very pleasant work during the warm summer months.

Hand spinning

After that, all the loose fibers are spun into beautiful yarn using the traditional method of hand spinning. This artisanal practice gives the yarn an imperfect look and feel, with irregularities in texture and thickness, allowing for the creation of unique textiles.

Slow textiles, to the rhythm of nature

Weaving the fabric

Then the weaving can begin. A rhythmic action in which vertical and horizontal threads are woven together by hand on a traditional pedal-loom to create the desired final textile.

Natural dyeing

In addition to the natural color palette of the sheep’s authentic wool, textiles can also obtain color through a natural dyeing process. Depending on the design of the final product, textiles are dyed using natural dyes extracted from different natural sources, showing the beauty of nature’s pigments.

Creating with locally sourced materials and natural colors allows us to reconnect with the beauty of nature and the value of our landscape, and its seasons around us.

The beauty of nature

The final textile, from cushion cover to wall-hanging, is inspired by the unparalleled beauty of nature and exemplifies the harmony between nature’s artistry and human craftsmanship. Each piece is a 100% natural, unique creation that weaves together centuries of heritage and knowledge — not as a mere romanticization of the past, but as a conscious effort to craft sustainable, authentic, and meaningful pieces designed to last.
