Lamatelier attaches great importance to the evolution of a raw material into a final product. Each design is created from a from farm to fabric philosophy – a transparent, sustainable and artisanal way of making meaningful textiles, always in harmony with nature and humanity. Every step in the process is done by hand in Lamatelier’s studio, where the work happens to the rhythm of the nature and its seasons.

Collecting the wool

Wool is carefully collected from local Belgian sheep breeds during the spring shearing season, respecting animal welfare and seasonal rhythms. As a natural and renewable fibre, it grows back every year, providing a sustainable source of material for future textiles.

In nature nothing is lost, everything is transformable

Sorting and washing

After collection, the wool is sorted by quality and gently washed during the summer, allowing it to dry naturally under the sun. This careful process preserves the fibres’ softness and prepares them for spinning.

Spinning the wool into yarn

The fibres are spun into yarn using a traditional technique of hand spinning. This artisanal method allows the yarn to remain slightly imperfect and irregular, giving each textile a unique character.

Slow textiles, to the rhythm of nature

Weaving the fabric

After spinning, the weaving begins – a rhythmic process in which vertical and horizontal threads are interlaced by hand on a traditional pedal loom to create the desired final textile.

Natural dyeing

The woven fabric can be dyed using plant-based and natural dyes, often derived from local plants or natural waste materials, such as onion skins. This no-waste approach brings subtle, living colours to the textiles while preserving the fibres’ natural beauty and keeping the material fully sustainable and eco-friendly.

Creating with locally sourced materials and natural dyes allows us to reconnect with the beauty of nature, the value of our landscape and its seasons around us.

The beauty of nature

The final textile – from cushion covers to wall-hangings – celebrates the beauty of nature and the harmony between natural artistry and human craftsmanship.

Each piece is 100% natural and unique, weaving together centuries of heritage with a conscious effort to create sustainable, authentic, and meaningful textiles designed to last.
