Seasonal Wall-Hangings for NEON
In the former teacher training college (Normaalschool) in Lier, Nils Proost and Annelies Tersago opened their restaurant NEON, where sustainability, zero waste, and local craftsmanship are at the core. With the mindset “waste is just an opinion,” they earned not only a Michelin star but also a Green Star in 2024. This forward-thinking and eco-conscious approach is also reflected in the interior design.
The rhythm of the seasons plays a central role in NEON’s menu. Reflecting this same seasonal philosophy, Lamatelier created four unique wall hangings for the interior, each inspired by a different time of the year.
Each piece is made entirely by hand from the wool of grazing sheep just around the corner from the restaurant. This local wool, typically considered a waste product and discarded, is given new life through craftsmanship. The textiles are dyed using a variety of botanical pigments – including kitchen waste such as coffee grounds and onion skins – aligning seamlessly with NEON’s zero-waste philosophy.
More than mere decoration, these wall hangings embody NEON’s core values: circularity, care, and a deep connection to the natural world.
